A tragic incident unfolded late Sunday night in Fayette County, Georgia, resulting in the death of a 19-year-old woman. The incident began as a kidnapping, with multiple 911 calls reporting that a man had taken his ex-girlfriend at gunpoint from a Wingstop restaurant in Fayetteville.
Responding to the calls, an officer from the Fayetteville Police Department spotted a vehicle matching the description and began to follow it. The vehicle attempted to flee, leading to a high-speed pursuit that crossed into Clayton County. Eventually, the vehicle turned into the driveway of Lovejoy High School, where officers executed a PIT maneuver to immobilize it.

However, the suspect inside the vehicle opened fire, shooting at the officers and their vehicle multiple times. Thankfully, the officers were able to escape and take cover. The suspect, identified as 20-year-old Cameron Ja’Michael Hopkins, was apprehended after deputies deployed an irritant into his vehicle.
Tragically, the female victim was found inside the vehicle with several gunshot wounds and succumbed to her injuries. The Clayton County Police Department is now handling the homicide investigation, and additional charges are expected to be filed.
