An 18-year-old woman tragically lost her life after her vehicle was struck by a tire that broke away from a pickup truck on Interstate 75 in Boone County. The incident occurred around 12:15 a.m., prompting a response from the Boone County Sheriff’s Office deputies.

According to the preliminary investigation conducted by the sheriff’s office, the young woman, identified as Lauren Collins from Independence, was driving south on I-75 when her windshield was suddenly hit by the tire. Deputies suspect that another vehicle, potentially a dually pickup truck, was traveling north on the same highway when its tire unexpectedly broke away. This caused the vehicle to veer out of control and roll over the concrete barrier, ultimately colliding with Collins’ car.

The Walton Fire Department was called to the scene and had to extricate Collins from her vehicle. She was then rushed to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center, where, tragically, she succumbed to her injuries.

The Boone County Sheriff’s Office accident Reconstruction Team has taken over the investigation to determine the exact cause of the accident. However, as of now, they have been unable to locate the vehicle that lost the tire on the northbound side of I-75. Authorities are urging anyone with information related to the incident to come forward and contact Sergeant Jeff Nagy at 859-334-8466.

This heartbreaking incident serves as a reminder of the potential dangers on the road and the importance of properly maintaining vehicles. It also highlights the need for drivers to remain vigilant and aware of their surroundings at all times to prevent such accidents from occurring..
