This incident adds to the alarming statistics of gun violence in the United States. In the first six months of 2023, the country has already witnessed 28 mass killings, with guns being involved in all but one of these cases. This has resulted in the deaths of 140 people and left hundreds more injured. The Associated Press reported that this marks the deadliest six-month period of mass killings since 2006. The previous record of 27 mass killings was set in the second half of 2022.

Criminology Professor James Fox from Northeastern University expressed his shock at the escalating numbers, stating that he never anticipated such records when he began overseeing the database five years ago. The situation highlights the urgent need for stricter gun control measures and comprehensive efforts to address the root causes of violence in the country..
