A Virginia man has been arrested in connection with a hit-and-run accident that resulted in the death of a pedestrian in Horry County, South Carolina. The incident occurred on May 27, near North Kings Highway, and the pedestrian remains unidentified. In an effort to solve the case and determine the victim’s identity, the Horry County Coroner’s Office has released a composite sketch and a photo of the victim’s tattoo.
James Samuel Thomas, 47, from Richmond, Virginia, was arrested on June 9 by the South Carolina Highway Patrol. He has been charged with a hit-and-run accident involving death or personal injury. Thomas was booked into the J. Reuben Long Detention Center and released on June 10 after posting a $10,000 bond.

The Horry County Coroner’s Office has been unable to identify the pedestrian through local or federal databases. However, they are in the process of completing a DNA profile, which is expected to be completed in about five months.
The unidentified victim is described as a white male in his late 40s, weighing 170 pounds, and standing between 5 foot 9 inches to 5 feet 11 inches tall. He has light brown or sandy blonde hair, and his mustache and goatee are graying.
