“Standoff in Smith County: Woman targeted, baby rescued, Victor Morales arrested”

A man in Smith County, Texas, was arrested after allegedly firing shots at a woman and barricading himself in a bedroom with a 7-month-old baby. The incident occurred on Friday night, when authorities responded to a disturbance call in the 9800 block of CR 4136.

Upon arrival, deputies encountered Victor Morales, 29, who immediately ran into the residence and barricaded himself in a bedroom. The woman at the scene informed officials that Morales had fired a gun at her prior to their arrival. She also revealed that the baby was inside the bedroom with Morales.

In response, the Smith County SWAT Team was activated and deployed to the location. Morales continued to refuse to cooperate, prompting the team to deploy gas into the bathroom from the outside window. Shortly after, Morales surrendered and was taken into custody without further incident.

Morales has been booked into the Smith County Jail on charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, endangering a child, and evading arrest. His bond has not yet been set.
