The Indiana State Police are currently investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred in Anderson early Friday morning. The incident took place at the corner of Fifth and Jackson streets, and the Madison County Sheriff’s Department has requested the assistance of the ISP in the investigation.
According to a press release, a Madison County Sheriff’s deputy named Robert Lemon, a four-year veteran, was patrolling the area when he stopped at a traffic light at the intersection of Fifth and Jackson streets. At that moment, individuals at the Jackson Mart gas station began shooting in his general direction. In response, Deputy Lemon exited his vehicle and fired at least one shot from his department-issued sidearm. Fortunately, Lemon did not sustain any injuries.

Further investigation revealed that another vehicle drove past the Jackson Mart, fired shots at the individuals at the gas pumps, and then fled the scene. During the exchange of gunfire, a 20-year-old man named Aundray Lamonte Ivy Jr., from Anderson, was struck by a bullet. Ivy was taken to a local hospital, where he was treated and released.
The investigation is ongoing, and it has not yet been determined whether the bullet that struck Ivy came from Deputy Lemon’s sidearm or from the individuals in the other vehicle. The Indiana State Police was assisted by the Madison County Sheriff’s Department, Anderson Police Department, and the Madison County Prosecutor’s Office.
It is important to note that Ivy has a prior criminal history. In July 2021, Ivy was arrested and charged with murder in the shooting death of Christian Michael Cox. However, the murder charge was dismissed, and Ivy pleaded guilty to a charge of criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon. He was sentenced to serve 18 months but was released for time served since his arrest.
