“Arrest Warrant Issued for Suspect in Fatal Shooting of New Bedford Man”

An arrest warrant has been issued for a man wanted in connection with the fatal shooting of a 25-year-old New Bedford man in Myles Standish State Forest, according to Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy J. Cruz.

The incident occurred on Wednesday at around 2:40 p.m. when Plymouth Police received multiple 911 calls reporting a shooting at Myles Standish State Forest. When authorities arrived at the scene, they found a man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. The victim, identified as Robert Aponte-Flores, was transported to Beth Israel Deaconess-Plymouth Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

After the incident, Plymouth Police contacted the Massachusetts State Police assigned to the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office, leading to the commencement of an investigation. Witnesses at the scene described an altercation between the victim and a suspect, identified as John Geovanni Pires Monteiromacedo, 20, in a park picnic area prior to the shooting.

As a result of the investigation, Massachusetts State Police obtained an arrest warrant for Monteiromacedo. The search for the suspect is currently ongoing, and anyone with information is urged to contact the Massachusetts State Police Violent Fugitive Apprehension Section at 1-800-KAPTURE.
