“Architect’s Wife Implicated in Gilgo Beach Murders as DNA Links Hairs to Victims”

Rex Heuermann, an architect from Massapequa Park, N.Y., is currently under investigation for his alleged involvement in the Gilgo Beach murders. The case, which dates back to December 2010, involves the discovery of four female bodies at Gilgo Beach, with Heuermann now considered the top suspect.

One crucial piece of evidence that may link Heuermann to the murders is the finding of four female hairs on the bodies of the victims. These hairs were later tied to Heuermann’s wife, suggesting her potential involvement in the crimes. Additionally, a male hair was found on the tape used to wrap one of the victims, Megan Waterman.

To further investigate the DNA evidence, an undercover detective recovered 11 bottles from the Heuermann family’s trash in July 2022. The Suffolk County crime lab swabbed the bottles for DNA, and on February 2023, it was concluded that one of the DNA profiles matched the forensic evidence from the Gilgo Beach crime scenes.

The testing revealed that the female DNA belonged to a member of the Heuermann household, specifically his wife. The DNA profile indicated that the female individual belonged to “mitochondrial haplogroup K1c2.” While Heuermann’s wife was out of state at the time of the murders, her DNA could have been present on Heuermann’s clothing or household items, such as tape.

In addition to the DNA evidence, investigators also retrieved a pizza box from the trash in Manhattan that had Heuermann’s DNA on the crust. This DNA was a match to the Gilgo victims.

Heuermann’s court-appointed defense attorney maintains his client’s innocence, but Heuermann has been held without bail due to the depraved nature of the charges. The investigation is ongoing, and Heuermann could potentially face more charges related to the Gilgo Beach murders..
