A tragic shooting incident occurred at a Mariano’s grocery store in Evergreen Park, resulting in the death of a 21-year-old employee. Armoni Henry, a 21-year-old man from Chicago, has been charged with first-degree murder in connection with the incident.
The shooting took place in broad daylight, prompting a quick response from authorities. Initially responding to a report of an active shooter, police arrived at the scene to find several people in the parking lot. As they entered the store, no gunshots were being fired at that time. It was in a back storage room that officers discovered the lifeless body of Jailene Flores, who had sustained multiple gunshot wounds. Surveillance videos showed Flores walking away from a man inside the store and entering the back room before the shooting occurred.
Henry was identified as a possible suspect and was apprehended on Chicago’s North Side shortly after the incident. Police recovered a firearm at the time of his arrest. The shooting was initially believed to be domestic-related, as Flores had reportedly been involved in a previous domestic dispute while working at Amazon in nearby Oak Lawn.
Mariano’s expressed deep sadness over the incident, offering thoughts, prayers, and support to all affected individuals and families. The store has initiated counseling services for its associates and is fully cooperating with the ongoing police investigation. As a result, the store will remain closed during this time.
