In yet another incident of violence in Rochester, New York, two men were shot on Genesee Street, just blocks away from where a homicide occurred the day before. The Rochester Police Department responded to the double shooting after receiving multiple calls reporting the incident. Lieutenant Greg Bello stated that both victims, who are in their 20s, sustained gunshot wounds to their upper bodies.
The injured men were immediately taken to Strong Memorial Hospital, where one remains in critical condition while the other is in stable condition. As of now, no suspects have been apprehended, and the police are urging anyone with information to contact 911.
The previous day’s homicide victim was identified as 38-year-old Dwayne Hall Jr. According to Captain Frank Umbrino, Hall was engaged in a physical altercation when the suspect pulled out a handgun and shot him in the torso. The perpetrator fled the scene, leaving Hall fatally wounded.
This recent surge in violence in Rochester is deeply concerning for the community. Just the day before the double shooting, another incident took place in northeast Rochester, resulting in one fatality. Sayyos Rios, 40, was shot while sitting on his porch, and a 19-year-old man standing nearby was also injured.
The police have stated that the two incidents are not related, suggesting that they are separate acts of violence. However, the increased occurrence of such incidents is a cause for alarm.
Efforts must be made to address the underlying issues that contribute to violence in the community and to ensure the safety and well-being of Rochester residents. The police are relying on the cooperation and support of the community to provide any information that may assist in solving these crimes and bringing the perpetrators to justice..
