Police have charged Meyer Daevon Thedford, 28, for his involvement in an armed robbery and shooting in Oak Park. The incident occurred on Tuesday, July 11, at the Loop Apartments on I-96 and Greenfield Road. Oak Park Public Safety Officers responded to the area following multiple reports of shots fired.

Upon arrival, police found a small SUV riddled with bullet holes and several bullet casings on the ground. They also located an individual who had been shot and transported the victim to the hospital for treatment.

According to police, a second person contacted them to explain that he and his friend were approached by a man driving a small SUV. The man in the SUV, later identified as Thedford, produced a handgun and announced a robbery. The man with the concealed pistol license (CPL) and Thedford exchanged gunshots. Fortunately, the two victims of the armed robbery were not injured and were able to flee the area.

Thedford left the SUV and fled on foot but was later found by Oak Park Public Safety Officers and transported to the hospital. He was subsequently arraigned on Thursday, July 13, in the 45th District Court on multiple charges, including armed robbery and possession of a firearm in the commission of a felony.

Court officials set Thedford’s bond at $100,000.

This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of personal safety and vigilance. The victim in this case was able to defend himself and his friend due to his CPL. It is crucial for individuals to consider obtaining a CPL and undergo the necessary training to ensure their ability to protect themselves in dangerous situations.

The Oak Park Police Department should be commended for their swift response to the multiple reports of shots fired and their successful apprehension of the suspect. Their efforts have resulted in justice for the victims and the community’s safety..
