A tragic wrong-way crash on I-55 in Will County last month has resulted in the arrest of a man who is now facing multiple charges. Michael Trinka, 33, of Wilmington, has been charged with 12 counts of aggravated driving under the influence. The crash occurred on June 27, when Trinka’s black Ford F-150 was traveling in the wrong direction on the southbound lanes of the interstate. At the same time, his vehicle collided head-on with a GMC Yukon, which was then struck by a semi-truck. The driver and front-seat passenger of the Yukon, Ronald Dube, 35, and Kelly Quinlan-Dube, 34, both of Emington, were pronounced dead at the scene. They were a married couple. Their three children, aged 2 and 7-year-old twins, were also in the vehicle and suffered non life-threatening injuries. Trinka himself sustained non life-threatening injuries as well. He is currently being held in jail on a $3 million bond.

This tragic incident serves as a reminder of the devastating consequences of driving under the influence. It not only resulted in the loss of two lives but also caused severe injuries and trauma to the surviving family members. It is crucial for everyone to understand the dangers of drunk driving and to take responsibility for their actions. This includes making the decision not to get behind the wheel if under the influence, as well as reporting suspected impaired drivers to the authorities. Additionally, support and assistance should be provided to the victims and their families during this difficult time. A GoFundMe page has been set up to help the family involved, providing an opportunity for the community to come together and offer their support. Ultimately, it is important for society as a whole to work towards preventing such tragedies by promoting awareness and enforcing strict consequences for those who choose to drive under the influence..
