A 19-year-old man and a 15-year-old girl have been charged with murder in the death of 18-year-old Zackhry Ramnath in King Township, Ontario. Ramnath was found dead on April 23, 2023, in a trail northwest of Seneca Polytechnic College’s King campus. The death was deemed suspicious, and the police have not yet released details about how Ramnath died.

The two suspects were identified and arrested on July 5, following an investigation by the York Regional Police. Lyjah Griffiths, 19, of Cambridge, and a 15-year-old girl from Mississauga, who cannot be identified due to the Youth Criminal Justice Act, have been charged with first-degree murder.

Court records show that Ramnath had been charged with several offenses just weeks before his death. In Valleyfield, Quebec, he was charged with uttering threats, assault with a weapon or causing bodily harm, and using an imitation weapon to commit an offense. He was also charged at the Montreal courthouse with two counts of armed robbery and uttering threats for incidents that occurred in February 2023.

Ramnath had been granted bail on March 15, after being detained for over a month. However, just over five weeks later, he was found slain north of Toronto.

The investigation into Ramnath’s death is ongoing, and anyone with information is urged to contact the homicide unit or Crime Stoppers anonymously.

This case highlights the tragic loss of a young life and the alleged involvement of two individuals in his murder. As the investigation continues, authorities will work to uncover the full details surrounding Ramnath’s death and bring those responsible to justice..
