Four teenagers were injured in a car accident in Hartland Township early Sunday morning. The Livingston County Sheriff’s Office received a call at around 3:20 a.m. about a vehicle that crashed into a tree on Bullard Road south of Read Road.

According to preliminary investigations, a 16-year-old male driver from Howell was traveling south on Bullard Road at a high speed when he lost control of the vehicle. The car veered off the road and collided head-on with a tree before flipping over and landing back on the roadway. The driver, who was wearing a seatbelt, suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

The front seat passenger, an 18-year-old male from Fenton, was not wearing a seatbelt and sustained life-threatening injuries. Fire personnel had to extricate him from the vehicle. Two rear seat passengers, both 16 and 17-year-old males from Howell, also suffered non-life-threatening injuries. All four teenagers were transported to the University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor by Livingston County EMS.

Authorities believe that speed was a contributing factor in the crash, but alcohol was not involved. The road was closed for approximately four hours for investigation and cleanup. The Livingston County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Safety Bureau is currently investigating the incident.

Emergency responders from the Livingston County EMS and the Hartland Area Fire Department assisted the sheriff’s deputies at the scene.

Car accidents involving teenagers can be particularly devastating, as they often lack the experience and judgment to handle high-speed situations. This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of seatbelt use and responsible driving habits. Parents and guardians should educate their teenage drivers about the dangers of speeding and the importance of wearing seatbelts to prevent serious injuries or fatalities in accidents..
