Early Sunday morning, a man was shot and two men were charged following a shooting incident in New London. The incident did not occur during the city’s annual Sailfest, according to police.
A 32-year-old man arrived at Lawrence + Memorial Hospital in New London with non-life-threatening gunshot wounds. As of Sunday afternoon, he was in stable condition, as confirmed by the New London police.

Reports of a shooting between Golden Street and Union Street prompted officers to respond at around 3:33 a.m. Upon their arrival, they observed a silver Chevrolet Silverado attempting to flee the scene. The truck driver led the police on a chase through the city and onto Boston Post Road towards Wildrose Avenue in Waterford. However, the truck eventually broke down, forcing the suspects to stop.
One of the suspects, Carlos Figueroa, a 28-year-old from New Britain, allegedly fled from the officers after exiting the passenger seat of the truck. Upon apprehending him, the police discovered that Figueroa was armed with a firearm. He now faces charges of criminal possession of a firearm, possession of an extended magazine, and interfering with police. Figueroa is currently being held on $250,000 bail.
The driver of the truck, identified as 28-year-old Christopher Soto-Marrero from Norwich, was taken into custody at the location where the truck broke down. Soto-Marrero is charged with reckless driving, engaging in a pursuit, driving without a license, and interfering with police. He is being held on $100,000 bail.
