A tragic incident occurred in Rancho San Diego, California, on Saturday when a two-alarm fire broke out in a home, resulting in the death of an elderly woman. The San Miguel Fire Department received a call about the fire around 12:15 p.m. after smoke was observed coming from behind the house. Firefighters arrived at the scene and were able to extinguish the fire by 1 p.m.

Unfortunately, when the firefighters entered the house, they discovered an elderly woman on the second floor. Despite their efforts to rescue her, they were forced back by smoke and flames. The woman sustained life-threatening injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Fortunately, the elderly woman’s granddaughter managed to escape the fire and received treatment for her injuries at the scene. No firefighters or deputies were harmed during the incident.

The San Diego Sheriff’s Office stated that the cause of the fire is still under investigation by the SDSO Bomb/Arson Unit. The Medical Examiner’s Office will also determine the cause and manner of the elderly woman’s death.
