The Troup County Sheriff’s Office (TCSO) is currently investigating a shooting incident that occurred inside a moving vehicle on Interstate 85, resulting in one person being injured. The incident took place on Tuesday around 7 p.m., prompting TCSO Deputies to respond to a report of a shooting on Interstate 85 Northbound near the 16-mile marker.

Upon arrival, deputies discovered a Chevrolet Malibu on the side of the road with its passenger doors open and two individuals standing outside the vehicle. The two individuals, a male and a female, were detained by law enforcement, while another male was found in the back seat of the vehicle with gunshot wounds.

While TCSO deputies provided aid to the injured victim, the TCSO Criminal Investigations Division initiated an investigation. It was later determined that the female driver, identified as Renee Savage from Prattville, Alabama, had been struck in the head by the male sitting in the front seat, identified as Roderick Hurst from Stockbridge, Georgia. This physical altercation between Hurst and Savage escalated, leading Savage to fire a handgun at Hurst multiple times while she was still operating the car.

The TCSO deputies arrived on the scene after the shooting occurred and determined that the second male occupant in the car was a witness and not involved in the incident. Hurst, the injured party, was subsequently transported to a hospital in Columbus, Georgia, with non-life-threatening injuries.

As of now, the case remains an active investigation, and no charges have been determined. The TCSO will continue to gather evidence and information to determine the appropriate course of action..
