On July 4th, a tragic two-vehicle accident occurred at the intersection of Highway 63 and Church Road in Greenwood, NE. The accident involved a red Honda Accord sedan driven by Hugo BUENDIA-VALVERDE and a red Ford F250 driven by Justin WIEDERIN. According to witnesses, BUENDIA-VALVERDE failed to stop at the stop sign and was struck by WIEDERIN’s vehicle.
Upon arrival at the scene, law enforcement and emergency services discovered that several passengers had been ejected from the Honda. Ricardo JIMENEZ-BELTRAN, the front seat passenger, was pronounced dead at the scene. BUENDIA-VALVERDE, the driver, and Alejandro VALVERDE-JIMENEZ, a back seat passenger, were also pronounced dead. Isaac VALVERDE-ARROYO, another front seat passenger, was removed from the vehicle by EMS but passed away before being transported.

WIEDERIN, the driver of the Ford F250, was given a Preliminary Breath Test, which showed no signs of alcohol in his system. He was then transported to Bergan Mercy for a blood draw. The County Attorney has requested an autopsy for BUENDIA-VALVERDE. The Nebraska State Patrol is handling the accident reconstruction.
Death notifications were made to the family members present at the scene. Both vehicles involved in the accident were towed due to damages and for further investigation. It is believed that alcohol may have been a factor in the accident. Additionally, it was reported that none of the four deceased individuals were wearing seat belts.
The accident is still under investigation pending the reconstruction by the Nebraska State Patrol. The Cass County Sheriff’s Office, along with other emergency response teams, responded to the scene to provide assistance and support. The community is deeply saddened by this tragic incident and offers its condolences to the families affected by this devastating accident.
